In addition to their work with children, Fischy Music is able to provide practical training for teachers on effectively using songs and music to help children explore and express both comfortable and uncomfortable emotions. This training is designed to enhance teachers' skills in curricular areas such as PSD (PSHE and Citizenship in England), Music and RME. We can offer:

  • After-school In-Service training (INSET in England) for staff
  • A training event for teachers from several schools
  • A full or half day conference

Course Leaders

Stephen Fischbacher and Suzanne Adam both work for Fischy Music and lead our training events. They have many years experience of working with teachers in schools around the UK and both strongly believe that teachers don't have to be music experts to lead singing effectively. For larger events, they may invite speakers from other organisations, such as Elizabeth Morris, Principal of the School of Emotional Literacy

Outcomes of Fischy Music Training

  • Inspiration in seeing singing as an effective way of helping children feel better about themselves and others.
  • Increased confidence in using music in classroom and assembly situations.
  • New material to use in school, and practical support in how to introduce Fischy Music.
  • An overview of how using music fits in to the development of Emotional Literacy in children, and in anti-bullying work.

Fischy Training events are participative, with teachers being encouraged to experience the music for themselves, but where smaller groups are present or if a school requests, the training can be more of a demonstration from the Fischy team of how the music can be used. We believe the sessions should be fun and refreshing, especially at the end of a long day, and teachers respond positively to the approach taken by our leaders.
"...engaging and immersive sessions that not only promote positive messages but model what good learning and teaching should look/feel/sound like."
Bruce Murray, Teacher Professional Development, Edinburgh

"I work with pupils with extreme social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and this has been the most useful music course I have been on."
Marianne Garety, Head Teacher, Edinburgh
