Jane MacLaren - Events Manager

I grew up in London but always used to dream of living in Scotland! I never get tired of the wind and the hills and my favourite thing in everyday life is cycling to work. My first degree was in psychology and I’ve also trained and worked as a counselor. I’ve been ordained for the last 15 years and before coming to Fischy worked in a variety of Churches and Chaplaincy situations including School and University. I live in Edinburgh with my husband, who’s also a Minister, our 3 children, cuddly Koalas called Brian and Belinda and a lot of bears and rabbits

What is the most embarrassing song in your CD or iPod collection? Duran Duran’s Greatest Hits: some great tracks but my family tells me my taste is shocking!

Where do you like singing most? In church with lots of people and a great worship band.

What is your idea of musical heaven? Choral Evensong at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, especially Ash Wednesday when the choir sings Allegri’s ‘Miserere.’

What is your idea of musical hell? Flutes and recorders played slightly out of tune.

Which instrument do you wish you could play? I think there’s a violinist buried deep inside me screaming to get out! It would be so great to be able to play anything from Scottish folk music to classical orchestral stuff.

Which instrument are you most glad that you don’t play? There isn’t an instrument I wouldn’t want to play as long as I could play it in tune!

Favourite song from primary school? All things Bright and Beautiful: I loved the idea of the ‘Purple-headed Mountain.’

Last song you cried to? ‘Dreaming’ on Fischy’s ‘Why?’ album. It always makes me cry so now my children skip over it when we’re listening to the CD!

Last song you danced to? ‘You are a Star’ in school with Fischy a couple of weeks ago!

Person you would most like to perform with? Julie Fowlis.
