Raine Clarke - Musician
I grew up on a farm near North Berwick where I spent a lot of time roaming fields and talking to animals. When I left school I went to art college in Aberdeen and then I trained and worked as a sick kids nurse in Edinburgh. Now I live in West Lothian with my husband and my two children and the world’s maddest hamsters. I’ve gone back to my arty roots and when I’m not working with Fischy music I’m painting and drawing and making stuff in my studio.
What is the most embarrassing song in your CD or iPod collection? I’m not embarrassed by any of them (but my kids are…)!
Where do you like singing most? In schools with children and in my kitchen when I’m cooking.
What is your idea of musical heaven? Anything with talent and passion – from Mozart to The Proclaimers!
What is your idea of musical hell? Bland, pouty, girl/boy bands.
Which instrument do you wish you could play? The Uilleann Pipes – it’s a sound that reaches into my soul.
Which instrument are you most glad that you don’t play? The tuba – I don’t have the muscle to lift it or the puff to play it!
Favourite song from primary school? ‘Katie Bairdy had a coo, black and white aboot the moo, wasnae that a dainty coo, dance Katie Bairdy …’
Last song you cried to? ‘Everything in heaven comes apart’ by Martyn Joseph.
Last song you danced to? ‘Voulez-Vous’ by Abba , with my daughter – it cheers up the long winter evenings!
Person you would most like to perform with? Freddie Mercury.
Raine Clarke
